They were silent for a few minutes it took them to drive around the lake and for St. Catherine's Church to come into view. It was an exquisite doomed Romanesque structure.

Write about the time you fixed something...

After a severe storm a couple years back, the basement was flooded in. The micro-switch for the pump was busted. After getting instructions from dad through the telephone, I proceeded to replace the defective unit.

Preparing my gear and the replacement

It was going to be dark downstairs as I was going to switch off the mains of the house. I needed two flashlights and my trusty headlight.

Hawaii Five-O Monday Squee

Stills from "Ua Lawe Wale by CBS Express

I just like checking out the stills from one of my fave shows. Mini spoiler-ish for season two:

"The heat is on for Kono"  and a new member joins the task force.

I can hear the mental gears whirring now. Here's my continuing fix for this path I tread (a very long road) in creating that perfect final draft.

Sunday Scribblings: Shipwreck

Sunday Sribblings

For Sunday Scribblings  prompt is shipwreck. To read more entries about it visit the link. ☺

Dark ship wreck

Rick Slade, a pirate by necessity and not by trade looked in consternation  seeing the last remnants of the ship, Stella, shipwrecked now and submerged in the watery depths of the cold, dark sea. He clutched tightly on the barrel and rode on the turbulent swells as he tried to make a head count of the crew bobbing in an out of the surface of the water. He was at least relieved that the moon has slipped past a cloud and had shone brightly like a beacon. He didn't know if the men were comforted by this but for now it will  have to do. Numerous shouts rang the night as the men called out to another. It was a tactic they've thought up for situations like these.

"Any ideas?"  Drell swam beside his first mate.

"Inogen's spell is different this time." Rick wore a pensive frown. "We have to be careful when we meet her again."

"And the medallion?" Drell suddenly worried as he threw a glance at the spot where Stella sank.

"It's with me," Rick replied. "Do you think the men will throw me overboard if I do this?" He waved his hand and out from the pieces of wood floating around them, a good size boat was built.

"If they do, I'll give them something they won't forget." Drell clenched his fist as his promise.

Follow Friday and Blog Hop

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee at Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read.

Parajunkee asks:

In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question "comes out of the closet" and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real?

Phoenix
My answer:  A phoenix because it seemed to have this unbidden strength that's enticing. Its  flaming feathers (once it took flight) and golden long tail completed such a majestic sight for this mythical bird. The idea of soaring to the skies appeals to me too.☺ Maybe I should choose a griffin so I can ride on its back. ☺

Adria stole quietly into the darkened chemistry lab and jammed the only the entrance of the room with a chair but she knew it wasn't going to be enough to keep  the creature out. It was systematically searching for them now.

"Great choice of room," Pepper whispered back. Her eyes glinting with anticipation as she crouched before the glass cabinets that  housed the acids. "Molotov cocktail would be good for tonight's special drink." Her flaming locks swayed as she tilted her head towards the cabinet in front of her.

Enter the Ninja Kittens

from gibsonthomas tumblr
When Tripp (my cat) was younger, he had a ninja phase too. Unfortunately, his claws dug on my back. He must have thought  I was one of his scratch posts or something but he seemed to know that I was pretty annoyed and with some creative moves not to spook Tripp, he finally jumped down.

One-Minute Writing: Movie/ book

Today's prompt was to reflect on a book you've read and a movie that was based on it.   To join in the fun visit One-minute writer
The One-Minute Writer

It was backwards for me. I saw the movie first before delving into the Lord of the Rings books Trilogy. I was quite astounded by the level of production work and the dedication from the people involved that went into interpreting Tolkien's world. I thought Sir Peter Jackson's vision which was to breakdown the books in a simple, digestible terms (to have a beginning, a middle and the end) helped navigate through the rich world Tolkien visioned. Sir PJ and his team (WETA) created a Middle Earth as if it did once existed and was lost in our history so to speak. It was quite unbelievable and that kind of impact to me was great.

Caution by Arwe Theryet
Yikes! I have yet to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) on HBO Asia but they keep re-airing the movie in the 11:00 PM or 11:30 PM slots. Who's going to watch that? I think I'm the only one who prefers watching horror movies with the sun is up. Haha

Friday Fiction: Rows

Napa Valley by En Vino Veritas

The gaggle of noise rose higher now as more and more of the seats were claimed by the students in en masse. She snapped several more shots for the school paper and at her final picture, she snapped a photo of Rick Lineheart while she steadied her somersaulting heart. She thanked for small favors that she was at the other end of the auditorium, far from anyone to see her flaming cheeks. She afforded a nervous giggle when the principal cleared her throat beside her. Adria flushed again but this time with embarrassment and started to leave the stage but before she turned her heel, she scanned the rows. She was surprised to see Rick was seated three rows behind Sally and not at the same row as she thought. She could hear "Your The One I love" by Jon McLaughlin playing in the background or was that in her head? She walked on clouds that day.

Carry On Tuesday: "An Eye for an Eye Will Make the Whole World Go Blind"

She had seen red and felt her heart  practically shattering to infinite pieces as the monotone confession from the one she vowed to hold, cherish, and all those synonyms "till death do us part," rang meaningless to her ears.

He continued doling the 'truth' unaffected by his words.

Is he even human? She glanced up to him beyond her tearful gaze. She openly wondered if he was feeling anything at this moment as he said words like "mid-life crisis."

An unforeseen force propelled her from her spot and rammed him to the wall. He would have easily fought her down but he surrendered to her overflowing outrage. He lifted his eyes to stare back at the once blue eyes he knew will never see again. He felt her anger taking shape as he gazed at the icy blue orbs. He accepted the forceful pummeling he received from her and didn't care getting two broken ribs, swollen lips, bruised arms, black eyes in the process.

Eye for eye will make the whole world go blind and for her it did. He began stringing his thoughts when the flying punches and kicks ceased. He tentatively glanced from the floor to the woman now seated at the foot of the bed.

Years of happiness she thought now fell off from her like autumn leaves. Her own years now lay meaningless on the heavily carpeted bedroom and the pictures that adorned every corner of their room stared back at her in pale cheer. Even the sunlight streaming from the ornate window cast a dull glow. No longer welcoming or warm, it was replaced by an obliterated and muted version of a morning aftermath.

One-Minute Writing: Review

http://oneminutewriter.blogspot.com/

Today's prompt was to right a one minute review of a most recent book read.

by Rick Barba

My Thoughts
For me and those others  unfamiliar with the Romulan Empire, the book gave a glimpse of what the Romulans have been doing after the great war against the Federation. The history lesson was very light and it didn't  bog down the story which I usually encountered in other sci-fi books. Fortunately, Mr. Barba kept it light and focused  that helped the story maintain its momentum. A couple of red herrings along the way that kept me on my toes and at the same time, it tickled my curiosity about the characters he had introduced. Can we hope to see them again in his other future stories? What will happen to the Romulan peace movement or to Gemini? Uhura-Spock shippers will be thrilled too since there were several scenes with them. Although, I'm still wrapping my mind seeing Spock in full grin. I'm intrigued by this. I don't know if Mr. Barba was testing the waters for fans reaction. Do I like it? Well, it takes getting used to the idea. It wasn't certainly bad and in fact, it made think of his mother. I haven't seen a Vulcan smiled in the movies or TV so like I said, it will take getting used to having Spock show his emotions when his guard is down. A good mystery even if the ending was a little bitter-sweet for Kirk.

Friday Fiction: A.S.R.

"Dark Corridor" by Angvil

For more Friday Fiction, check out One-Writer. Write a brief bit of fiction using the abbreviation  "A.S.R." You decide what the letters stand for.

A pair of beams crisscrossed along the walls lighting his way. Then the lights disappeared  just as Ulysses glanced down at the handheld scanning device he was carrying. The monitor showed no other blips on the same floor and movement was still confined at the basement level.  He switched on his search lights that came from his eyes and the light beams fell on the name  "Arthur S. Rom" attached on the wood panel door.

"Gotcha, A.S.R."

Before he could enter the room, a sound of something metallic connecting to another metallic surface, clanged from behind the door he was about to open. He backed up and glanced around for another exit.  He found one to his right and dashed toward it. He had just closed the door quietly behind him when heavy footfalls navigated around the room and were closing in. Ulysses welded shut the metal doorframe with his finger and left to find another way to get inside A.S.R's office.

Have you ever wished you could enter a book?

"I know," she said. "But in different ways. I'm willing to change to fit in here. You're going to force the Academy to change to fit you." - Lynne to Kirk

Summary from Goodreads.com
A new Starfleet Academy series for teens—filled with romance and adventure! In The Competitive Edge, Kirk finds out how much of a toll the intense training classes and grueling schedule of academy life is taking on all the cadets, including himself. But some recruits seem better equipped to handle the challenges. Is there something that is giving them an edge? Kirk is determined to find out, especially since one of the cadets with a little something extra is his new girlfriend.

A little about my review of the book can be found here.  I'm going to update that review some time this week.

Now, have I ever wished I could enter a book? Yes, many times just like the kid from the Neverending Story movie!  I think it's in everyone's mind once in a while and  that it will  never cease to be boring. ♥☺  So when I had my copies of the New Starfleet Academy books  the daydream was  awakened again. ☺

Writing Prompt: "If I should die, think only this of me..."

This is a writing prompt hosted by

Carry on Tuesday
To start, this came from my yesterday's post: A Star Called Altaira

"Balancing Sunlight" by Sharon Pruitt

Keith turned another corner and finally found her. He slowed his steps until he stopped completely. Beth was framed by one of the hospital's floor-to-ceiling windows. The  morning sunlight dappled around her giving an almost otherworldly sight to behold.  He soon forged a step forward until he reached her side.  When she swiveled to meet his gaze, he knew she saw his concerns clearly written on his face. He didn't hide them because he preferred showing his emotions on his face than saying them a loud.

"Because hearing the words in your own voice makes it final for you." She picked up his thoughts very clearly as if she was dwelling inside his mind, his heart.

"I don't want you fight these alien creatures," Keith was only able to say, wrapping her in his embrace.

"You already know I can't leave my team." Beth was unable to mask the uncontrollable shudder and was glad for Keith's lingering hold just as an ear-splitting siren wailed throughout the area.

He tried to keep her from going  back. Their fingers still entwined much like their hearts.

Beth gazed at their hands. She was fighting back at her own uncertainty. She wants come back to him after the invasion. "Remember," she started her tears unleashed, "remember May 15 for me." She squeezed her hand and pleaded with her eyes that he should let her go. "If I should die, think only this of me," she touched his temple and soon Keith's mind was flooded of memories Beth kept ever since they met. "May 15." Her voice echoed before he lost consciousness.

Friday Fiction: Reptile

By malikimram
Adria kissed the ground when a deadly machete came flying straight at  her. A dull thud followed when the machete embedded itself on the trunk of massive tree. Noises of a fight between her team and the bad guys continued with  frenetic energy just a couple of yards away that their grunts and fists smashing against flesh were subdued by a sound that chilled her blood. A dangerous rattle repeatedly jingled close to her elbow.

She froze and willed her furious beating heart not climb up her throat.

Writing prompt:: Once

What should everyone do at least once? Check out One-Minute Writer for more once entries.
by movies.rawr-caps.net
Bungee jump at least once. ☺ I'm still psyching myself ever since the Amazing Race splashed to the screens. That's how long for me still. Not yet there. Haha. My resolve's thinning out. Tsk.

I also like to do the aerial bungee from the Lara Croft: The Tomb Raider movie too. Although, I need to be flexible to make through some of the complicated stuff.

Credit by Big Bird

EXT - GROUNDS - AFTERNOON

Music of a Hawaiian flavor fills the air. A slow rise of cacophony swells to a high note. The assembly of  the winged persuasion continue to add their numbers. They all vie for a place in this year's "World's Best Bird Competition."

Mercy:  Not too high, Lyric.

Lyric: It's not too high. (He looks at his companion's leg)

Mercy shakes his head and counts the blades of a nearby tuft of grass off to his left.

Mercy:  Well, after all, tomorrow is another day.  We'll wing it.

They continued their dance rehearsal of their routine before calling it a day.
