I first thought of picking the legend of the town (now city) for today's ABC feature: C as in Calamba. The town has an interesting and quaint history dating back to the Spanish times.
The story went as a young woman (statue below) was on her way home, was approached by two Guardia Civils. These two soldiers apparently were new to the area or were lost, (depending on which text books, lolz) asked the woman (in Spanish), the name of the town. Unfortunately, the query was lost translation since the young woman knew only her native language then coupled with her apprehension, she answered them "Kalan-banga?" Clay stove (in translation) Oh, well, the soldiers thought that was it and so the town was known Calamba.
On the sides of the clay pot, are the towns comprising, Calamba. For other participants, hop here.

Thanks. :D
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting story on how the town got it's name. Nice choice for the letter C!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was quite fascinating to learn how a name of place came to be which later evolved through the years due to letters in one's alphabet aren't included or just what it sounded like eventually became the norm. :D
DeleteWelcome at ABC Wednesday, Raine! What a lovely story about your hometown. The photos are very beautiful.

Likewise especially when the name evolves over the years. Thanks for pointing me to your post too.
DeleteWhat a cool pot! Never seen a clay pot that big before!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's big. I wanted to go up the stairs that was leading up the pot but it was windy and walkway was too skinny.
DeleteWow, I love that earthenware pot with its interesting map.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite imaginative to have the neighboring towns depicted that way too.
DeleteA huge WELCOME and you did great for your first time. Looks like an interesting place with a fascinating history.
